Step right out of your comfort zone.
If your comfort zone is constant variety and external stimulation and adrenalin to “fill you up,” you could move all over the world and go on great adventures and that would be the most cowardly thing you could do. Stepping out of your comfort zone would be slowing down and finding the adventure in your day to day life.
You could exhaust your body training for a triathalon and never really challenge yourself. If competitive athletics is safe for you, you could do the whole training right in your comfort zone. Meanwhile, maybe fear of failure is stopping you from doing anything creative. Stepping out of your comfort zone might be skipping the next race and pursuing a childhood love of art and music instead.
You could build an empire and become a tycoon and never leave your zone, if your comfort zone entails getting your sense of self-worth from your achievements in the world. Stepping out of your comfort zone might mean doing the real work of finding your self-worth apart from money.
Whatever your comfort zone is, fear’s job is to keep you there. Picture your beliefs, worldview, and self-concept as frozen inside of your body. Fear’s job is to keep to the chill going so that all of those things never become thawed out, soft and flexible.
What does your comfort zone look like?
What scares you to death?
What’s at the core of those experiences?
Whatever we can’t be with runs our lives. How are the boundaries of your comfort zone binding your life?
Go out of your comfort zone. It will wake you up, in the best way.
