Early Morning

By December 23, 2008 No Comments

The town is not awake yet. The sun is not shining its spotlight on the objects of the world. The engine of civilization’s machine is silent now.

I am fully awake, attuned to the roosters who crow in the dark and the early birds who begin the cycle of morning calls. I am listening. I’m entirely here. I’m stepped up to the plate to participate in all of it. Compassion sits huge in my chest and floods me.

Never is Being so silent, and never does It speak so loudly to me as in the early morning. At this hour, I feel joined with the life force in a single fabric of fierce, humming, potentiality.

The silence is full, dense, teeming with life. The universe is a small dense acorn, ready to be transformed into something inconceivably greater.

I would like this life to be a walk on a winding path, not an athletic competition or a maze or a pageant or a war. I want to be a surrendered walker, and follow the path that unfolds before me with attention and with faith.

I’ll be a sane witness, observer, student. I’ll learn from all of it, without attachment, and I know that in doing that, I will experience the richest, most vivid life.
